The Health Improvement Program for the Elderly (HIPE) is a model of excellence in its ability to form a collaboration of behavioral health providers of mental health services. These providers include Jewish Family & Children's Service, Catholic Social Services, the Family Counseling Agency, and the Marana Health Center. HIPE offers home and community-based mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment.

HIPE serves older adults, caregivers, and family members from Hispanic, urban Native American, and other minority populations in Pima County, Arizona. This culturally competent program offers services in Spanish and employs staff members who represent the diversity of the community. This program also has a website that is used to collect health, social, behavioral, and service utilization information from program participants from the four counseling agencies. This information helps to improve service delivery and mental health outcomes.

HIPE provides educational presentations about the identification and treatment of behavioral health problems to 750 providers, case managers, and caregivers per year. This program also specializes in reaching out to rural and minority elders and developing culturally appropriate treatment plans.
